Bad luck and car troubles

June 30th, 2009

I woke up today to cloudy skies, rain, and thunder. Though I normally hate this weather, it’s a relief from the summer heat. A couple weeks ago, I spent a few days in California where the weather was nice and around 70ºF. I come back to Texas and face over 100ºF every day. Oh sigh…

The one good thing about the heat is that it’s great for being out on the water. Saturday, 6 friends and I went out to the lake for swimming, tubing, and water skiing on our friend’s boat. Two of my friends joke that when they’re together, bad things always happen. It’s funny because… well, bad things did happen. On the way to the lake, we got into a car accident. A large pick-up truck rear ended us at a stop light.  At the lake, one of our friends cut his leg while getting back on the boat. A little after that, the boat battery dies, and we thought we were stranded in the middle of the lake. Luckily, my friend managed to get it running again. Despite those, we still had a lot of fun, even if most of us got a little sunburned!

Before the lake incidents, my boyfriend and I faced some bad luck as well. The day we got back from the trip, I found that I couldn’t start my car. There was just no power at all. Jumping the battery didn’t work since the cables began smoking and melting. I towed it to the dealership to find out that a short in the fuse box caused my battery to be drained. Both things had to be replaced, which luckily, was at no cost to me because of warranty. While it was getting repaired, they gave me a 2009 TL as a loaner car, which was like an upgrade from my 2007 TL ;) While that was fun to drive around, it’s still good to have my car back.

About a week after that, my boyfriend found his car drained of power as well. After jumping it, he realized the switch to his brake lights broke because they wouldn’t turn off, even if the car was off. He had to get that replaced too. I’m hoping that’s the end of all of our bad luck and car troubles!

Anyway, looks like I get this Friday off in celebration of July 4th. Looking forward to a 3-day weekend!

A weekend in Dallas

June 1st, 2009

Well, I’m back in town now from my short trip to Dallas. Tina and I arrived at Jack’s house Friday night with KFC and a 2lb donut. Fried chicken and a huge glazed donut, please tell me that is the best gift ever.

The next day, we went to A-kon. Tina wore my Dawn costume (Pokemon), and Jack and I debuted our The World Ends With You (TWEWY) costumes. I was Neku (orange hair); Jack was Beat (black beanie). I have to say, this Neku costume is my favorite so far. It was comfortable to wear, and it has huge pockets I could use. I also felt like we had more picture (and um… hug) requests than usual. Click the previews below for the image galleries! I wish I had taken better pictures at the con, but a lot of it was rushed since people were asking for my pictures too. For details about how I made the costumes, see my Cosplay Log.

Of course, I can’t leave an Anime con without wasting my money in the dealer’s room, bringing my Kirby count up to 6. One day… I will have them all!

Amusing notes from the con:
– Several times, we were asked, “Where’s Rhyme?” or “Where’s Joshua?” Oddly enough, no one ever asked for Shiki.

– We ran into a Rhyme and a Minamimoto!

– There was a TWEWY photoshoot on Friday that we couldn’t make. 4 different people told us about it. They ended up having a photoshoot without a Neku. I might have been the only Neku at the con?

– Was talking with someone when Tenchi Muyo came up. She asked how old I was, thinking I was too young to know about that series. She was surprised to know I was 24, and showed the “I thought you were 16” face.

Before leaving Dallas on Sunday, we decided to go to the aquarium. I’m too lazy to go through those pictures and post them right now though. Perhaps another time!
