Lately, I’ve been working on re-archiving past layouts I’ve made for my sites. I say “re” because I had a site that archived them before, but I stopped updating in 2008. I wanted to re-code the site and also take better screenshots of the layouts.
Well… I procrastinated. I finally moved the site to WordPress, and now it’s back up: Distant Memory.
I didn’t archive all of my sites. From 1999 to now, I’ve created over 40 sites. During my earlier webdesigning years, I also changed layouts every month (which drove me crazy when I was archiving Shattered Wings). Apparently when I was younger, I had a lot more time for this stuff ^^;;
I tried to archive only the major sites I’ve done, and well… also ones that weren’t too embarrassing. It is fun to look back on past works, but there is a lot of “*facepalm* I can’t believe I did that” moments. For example, here are some of my earliest works:
Rain of Blood – March 2001

Dark Abyss – December 2001

Shattered Wings – February 2002

Hachi Roku – June 2002

Pretty bad, huh? XD;; Do you ever look back on past works?

I soooo wish I could do this. O_O My earliest sites have disappeared with my past computers and their hard-drives. It’s awesome that you’ve thought to archive them! It’s so much fun seeing how your styles grow and mature! xD
Huhuhuhu LOL Wow I can’t believe you have over 40 sites x_x I started web designing in around 2006-2007, and since then I’ve owned… 13 or 14. But a lot of them didn’t stay up longer than a year x_x
I wish I could archive all my past layouts for past sites, but I was dumb enough to delete all my files when I decided in 2009 “I’m done with web designing!”, but in the end, I came crawling back… You’re lucky to have been able to keep screenshots of your layout (:
And they’re not that bad, considering how popular web design styles where back then, LOL my first layout was horrible x_x
But its amazing, seeing how much you’ve improved since then! :D
hmm. WHOOOOAA! 1999 ? my goooooosssh ! you’ve been blooging for so loooooong! xD that’s a lot of archieves eeey ? o.O I’m amaze xD anyways, care to link ex ?
I can’t believe you’ve done 40. I’ve done a fraction of that and I started about 3 years after you. I’ve archived just about all of them but sadly most of them are only in a dinky little thumbnail. I was clearing a bit up myself and I found a little over 100 screenshots.
I’ve got so many facepalming moments that I’m sure if I did it for real, I’d be so red and full of bruises. But that’s what makes half the fun right?
Cat!! I’m so glad your still alive on the web! *happy* :D
You have dedication, blogging since 1999! Keep it up! :)
Lol, I do look at my past things. What gets me, are my drawings. I look back at drawings I did in middle school, and it looked SO AWFUL!!! There is a transition from middle school, high school, to college. Looking at the improvements on proportions and sizes still amazes me. I was a poor artist.
40 sites…amazing Cat! It definitely is fun looking back at things you did when were young.
woah! 40 sites? That’s a loooooot! :D I remember I had like below 10 sites from 2004 till present. XD But I only have one active site at the moment which I’ll forever keep. :D
anyways, I love your designs on your previous sites!:)
I didn’t know you had an RK fansite! Congrats on moving to wordpress~ 40 sites is an amazing number! When I was new with web designing, I revamp my blog every month too xDDD
Wow, 40 sites! That’s impressive! XD Ah, I used to keep a record of all the layouts I’ve made for my sites. It’s definitely a good way to keep track of your growing skills!
Haha, that’s so cool, 40 sites are amazing!
“Everyone” has had that phase in their internet-life that they’ve created embarrassing websites and such. I made an Itachi x Sakura shrine *dies* and a general Anime site. I know I did more, but my conscience may be blocking them out of embarrassment.
=( I’ve lost most of my themes/layout because switching to new computers and not saving them or lost them in the process of saving O_o;;
It’s a good idea to make a site dedicated to past layouts though :D
Oh man, I love doing that. Unfortunately, I’ve lost all of my past things at this point, which major sucks (but at least it gives me a fresh start). I used to completely be in love with illegible fonts and really dark backgrounds with cliche quotes surrounded by gaudy brushes. That was a very descriptive sentence, but you get my point xP It’s really cool that you’ve gone through and documented all your stuff so well, as well as HAD so many sites :P
Not bad.. I mean compared to the layouts i’ve done when I was younger. Your layouts are pretty neat if you ask me :p I would never want to go back on my old layouts.. or maybe for laughs, I would? Haha.
