AnimeFest, here I come

August 28th, 2012

A couple weekends ago, I got to try the Wii U! It’s Nintendo’s next console, which is supposedly releasing during the holiday season. If you’re interested, I wrote about the games I played and my thoughts on the Wii U over on my gaming blog :)

I hope you’re not tired of Anime convention talk because… I’m preparing for another one! AnimeFest is coming up this weekend, and since it’s my favorite con, I’m cosplaying instead of doing photoshoots. Unfortunately, I didn’t finish the Spirited Away costumes for me and my friends, so we’re using older costumes instead.

I think I’ll wear my Sakura costume that I made a few years ago. Even though I don’t play Street Fighter anymore, I really like this costume and am kind of excited to wear it again.

San Japan

August 17th, 2012

So… I didn’t go to the hot air balloon meet-up that I mentioned in my previous entry. I was way too tired after San Japan, my legs especially. The next day, they were really sore! I underestimated how much stress taking photos can be on the body. All of the squatting, climbing up on stuff, and weird positions I put myself in just to get a photo. I think I did too many photoshoots in a row without giving myself much of a break.

But, it was a lot of fun, and I’m happy with the photos I got :) I drove to San Antonio in the morning and met up with Ongaku and her sister shortly after. They were the first photoshoot I did!

I don’t meet many online friends in person, so it’s cool that I’ve been able to meet up with her a couple times now :) After that, I walked around and asked other cosplayers if they wanted to do a photoshoot. Here is a preview from each one:

Busy weekend ahead

August 9th, 2012

Lately, I have been preparing for 2 Anime cons that are coming up. The first one is tomorrow! It’s San Japan, which is in San Antonio, about 1.5 hours away from Austin. I decided to take a one day trip to take photos instead of cosplaying. The past 2 days, I’ve been working on this:

I didn’t have a good way to carry my lighting gear, so I made a bag :) It can fit a light stand, light mount (detached), and an umbrella (for diffusing the flash, it’s not a rain umbrella).

I was originally going to go on Saturday, but I changed plans when I found out the hot air balloon meet-up is that day. It’s the same event that I wrote about last year. I’m still not sure if I’m going to the meet-up since it’s so early (they start set-up around 6AM), but I’m leaving that option open at least. So yeah, busy weekend ahead!
