Weekends of food and photos

February 21st, 2016

Last weekend, I did a photoshoot with Hindari for her Touken Ranbu cosplay! While I do like doing photoshoots at conventions, the ones outside of them give me way more flexibility in time and locations. Leading up to the shoot, I researched several locations, scouted out 4 of them in person, and got permission for 2 of them. In the end, we decided on a botanical garden!

I really love how they came out. That amazing feeling of being happy with your photos is why the effort is worth it and a reminder of why I love photography. Here are some more of my favorites from the shoot!

A week in review

February 12th, 2016

Happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate it! I celebrated with my parents early on Saturday with a traditional Chinese dinner, and then on Sunday, we hosted a Super Bowl party at our house. I ate so much over the weekend! I definitely need to make it up with some healthy habits.

My year has actually gone well so far in terms of being healthier. Thanks to our new treadmill, I’m running a few times a week. There’s a spot that you can rest a tablet on, so I put my iPad mini there and watch something on Crunchyroll. I’m currently going through the second season of Haikyuu. I made a rule such that I can only watch Haikyuu while on the treadmill. It’s been a pretty good motivation to run ;)

We’ve also been cooking frequently. My husband cooks dinner 4-6 times a week, 3 of which come from Blue Apron. I’m still in the habit of cooking lunch to bring to work 3 times a week as well, and I revisit past Blue Apron recipes for those. The last one I did was the Korean “ragu” recipe! (Though I substituted the rice cakes with rice since I have a bunch at home.)

What I’m Up To, #8

February 2nd, 2016

I’m excited to do this “What I’m Up To” entry because I’ve been productive with my hobbies lately! I believe this is the first time I’ve included “What I’m Drawing” as a section too. I don’t draw as much as I used to, and every time I do it, I realize how much I miss it. So without further ado, here’s what I’m up to lately in each of my hobbies!

What I’m Drawing

It’s been an annual tradition for me to draw something for Chinese New Year, and it’s about to be the year of the monkey! I was dreading it at first because I had never drawn a monkey before and thought I’d be terrible at it, but it actually turned out alright :)

This is actually my 12th year in a row, which means I’ve made a full circle. I have now drawn every animal in the Chinese zodiac! This time around, I decided to take a photo with my phone along the way. Here are all of the progress photos, so you can see how the drawing came together. I start with a basic sketch and then layer on details with Prismacolor pencils.
