My Favorite Things: December 2017

December 18th, 2017

Lately, I’ve really been enjoying getting into art again. It’s been very therapeutic and relaxing, especially as I realize that it’s ok that I’m not where I’d like to be yet and that I just need to keep practicing. I used to stress out about it, but now it’s a nice hobby I can do on and off in my spare time. There’s some art supplies that I’ve been really loving, so I thought I’d do a My Favorite Things around them!

Pentel Arts Pocket Brush Pen

I came across this brush pen when I was researching supplies for Inktober, and it seems to be a popular item for many artists. $11-20 might seem like much for just one pen, but it’s refillable, so it’ll last you. (I bought a 12 ink refill pack on Amazon.) I love how smoothly the ink flows out of the pen, and the brush tip lets you make variable widths in your lines. It took me awhile to get used to it, but it’s fun to use!

Copic Sketch Markers – Sketching Grays

I wish I had these for Inktober, but I ordered them afterwards because I wanted to continue working with ink. Though they’re double ended, I’ve only used the brush tip. It’s a good range of grays, and the ink flows and blends smoothly. I find them pretty easy to use overall. I love the result, and working in grayscale has been good practice too.

My Favorite Things: May 2017

May 18th, 2017

It’s kind of funny how inspiration hits when you mean to take a break away from something. I’ve been working on cosplay every day since my last entry and wasn’t planning on blogging again until I was finished. (You can see progress on my Instagram and cosplay blog.) I felt like fitting in an entry though! (And I have more in draft!)

The theme for this “My Favorite Things” is around comics because that’s pretty much the only other hobby I’ve been able to do. Starting with…

Tapas

I’ve been using Tapas (formerly Tapastic) for a while to follow a few comics, but the past month, I’ve really added to my library. It’s a site for webcomic creators to upload their works, and you can subscribe to them. Most are free to read, but there are some premium ones here and there that you have to pay for. If you get the mobile app, you can also tip the creators with coins, which translates to real money for them. I like that there is a way to support the artists you like!

Anyway, I’m really loving some of the series I follow and enjoy exploring the different works on there. If you’re on Tapas, let me know if you have any recommends!

My Favorite Things: February 2017

February 21st, 2017

I’ve been having trouble finishing a few blog drafts lately, but then I remembered that I haven’t written about recent favorites yet this year. Since I skipped it last month, this will cover things I’ve been loving the past couple of months!

Movie: Moana

I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed a Disney musical movie this much. Moana was such a fun and beautiful movie to watch. I loved watching her journey, and the music, oh man the music. The past month or so, I’ve been addicted to its soundtrack, especially We Know The Way, How Far I’ll Go, Where You Are, and I Am Moana.

As much as I appreciate female characters fighting against stereotypes, it’s also nice when they’re just not there to begin with? No one questioned that Moana would be the next chief or tried to marry her off, everyone was forbidden from leaving the island (not just Moana), and Maui underestimated her because she was mortal, not because of her gender. Seriously, finally.
