China Trip, Summer 2004

I went to China for a second time with my family. It was also like a huge family reunion for my dad's side of the family. My family (from Texas) flew to China with relatives from California. We later met with our relatives from New York and New Jersey in Taishan, the home town of my dad's family.

California - 07/23/04

"I'm going to pass out on your couch."
"Ok."

I had gotten up at 4:30AM CST to get ready for the 7:20AM flight. It was 8:30AM PST when my family and I reached California. I hate taking naps but went in and out of sleep for 2 hours on my cousin's, David's, couch. The rest of the day was spent following my cousin and uncle as they ran last minute errands before our 2AM flight. We had a small barbeque before we left.

"It doesn't feel like we're leaving for China tonight."
"Yeah, it feels like a regular day except... I'm in California and not Texas..."
"Same here... except you guys aren't usually here."

Hong Kong - 07/25/04

After a 14 hour flight, we landed in Hong Kong at about 7AM (their time). We were met in the airport by an old friend of my parents. After dropping our stuff at his apartment, it was time for dim sum and shopping until about 2PM. We then caught a bus to the airport and off to Beijing we went. It felt like an amazingly long day, as if I've been up for 2 days... which is pretty much the case here. I couldn't wait to sleep in a bed instead of upright in a seat.
